- Description
- Drawing from diverse theoretical perspectives and traversing two methodologically different stages of a study, this chapter seeks to contribute a 'cautionary tale' to the field of equity and widening participation (WP). Specifically, the chapter explores the unintended consequences of a university outreach programme of mentoring and associated research activity informed by, among other theoretical foundations, the concept of possible selves. Positioned as a practitioner-researcher, I present this work as 'close up' (Clegg, Stevenson, and Burke, 2016) to an ongoing investigation that is developing new modes of personal practice via increasingly complex understandings of - and sensitivities to - the layers of inequality operating within the field.
